Renee Shriver
I have has been around dogs all my life. When I was a child my mother helped at a local training club and showed dogs in obedience, so I was always seen ringside. My mother was good friends with a collie breeder so a lot of my memories from my early years are playing with the puppies to socialize them and snuggling with all the collies. It should be no surprise that I fell in love with dog training when I was reintroduced to it as an adult and became addicted to working with my dogs!!!

In 1999 I took my first obedience class and I was hooked. I started teaching in 2003. I love the bond that dog training brought to my life. Angel and I started a journey together to bring smiles to people when she became my first therapy dog, My journey started with Angel but each dog since has helped me to explore new dog sports and to continue my journey. Currently Melody, Annabel and I are active in agility, obedience, rally, musical freestyle, pet therapy, nose work and tricks. Melody has also introduced me to tracking.

After being laid off from an office job I decided become a dog trainer. I have taught classes in agility, rally, competition obedience, focus/attention, pet obedience, therapy dog/CGC, nose work, tricks, tribal and musical freestyle. I teach group and private lessons.

My teaching methods are based on positive training, I love to make training fun for both the human and canine members of the team. After all we do this for fun and we ask the dogs to do a lot for us so let’s make it a happy experience for the whole team.

I became involved with Bayshore Companion Dog Club after receiving my first Golden Retriever as a gift. Maggie liked to bark and therefore competition obedience was not a good option for us. We found agility, barking permitted, and the rest is history. Jodi Kellar

My love for learning is only second to my love for dogs. I have been in public education since 1998, completing my second master’s degree to gain the certification for school librarianship in 2018. My first master’s degree also prepared me for school leadership with certification as a school principal and school supervisor. In 2003 my heart dog was born, Sweet Jellybean. As my muse, she opened my mind and heart to a world with canine companionship. This was so powerful, I went back to school to become a dog trainer in order to help others experience this wonderful world. My passion grew into an active training center with over a dozen local trainers; I also enjoyed bringing highly skilled national & international training and competition opportunities to the area. I have a 29 year old daughter who is a veterinarian, keeping the love of animals in the family. After moving south to the woodlands of New Jersey, I was able to maintain my training academy in Northern New Jersey for two years, as it was deeply needed in the suburban area. There is now a new facility, which allows me to step away from running a business and return to my true passion, teaching and coaching canine-human teams. I currently enjoy participating in agility, rally, animal acting/modeling, canine tricks and other fun activities with my three dogs, two beagles and a border collie.

TRAINING PHILOSOPHY

My philosophy for teaching people and their dogs is based on the use of the behavioral learning properties of positive motivation. I use these quadrants of learning to build on the relationship and bond between the dog and human. By building on the developed trust, communication and bond within a team I strive to teach skills, attitude, and dedication to canine companionship by encouraging teams to continue to grow together in the sports and activities they both enjoy.

Chuck DiIorio

Like many dog owners, I started training my first dog, a mixed breed, just the way many people do - purely to train for canine manners so we could manage living with him. But the more he learned, the more I learned that I was actually enjoying my training time with him. Before long, my training of dogs began a fulfilling hobby that over the next 30 years has evolved into my teaching obedience and tracking.

My first competition dog was a Golden Retriever that successfully earned his AKC CDX and Canadian CD. He was well on his way to trialing for a UD before injury forced his retirement.

My next Golden not only achieved an AKC UD but also earned both a Canadian UD and a UKC UD. When my next two Goldens didn't have the drive and enjoyment of competition Obedience, I began to explore both Agility and Flyball and these developed into competitive venues which both the dogs and I enjoyed. Wanting to try training a different breed, I next trained Australian Shepherds who both went on to earn AKC CDX, UKC CD and Canadian CD's while trialing in Agility and Flyball. My current Golden, at age 2-1/2, has an AKC CD and TD, is trained through Utility and is close to trialing for both a CDX and a TDX.

I am enjoying teaching classes at BCDC. It is my goal as an instructor to have each of my students meet their own personal training goals and to see that both my students and their canine partners enjoy their training time as well as I did when I first began my own journey.

I have been involved with dog training for over 27 years.

I started with Siberian Huskies doing breed competition, sled dog training, obedience competition, agility, tracking and therapy dog work.

I rescued a Golden Retriever 17 years ago and have been hooked on the breed ever since, doing search and rescue, obedience competition, agility competition, tracking titles, conformation, field training, breed competition and therapy dog work.

I have earned several competition titles on 2 breeds in Obedience, 3 Rally Obedience titles, Novice, Open and Excellent agility titles, tracking dog titles and owner handled Conformation Titles on multiple Golden Retrievers.

Two of my dogs are in the Veterinary Hall of Fame for their work at 9/11.

I have been providing training classes for over 18 years for individuals and groups.

I also work with canine problem behaviors including fear issues, neurotic behaviors, separation anxiety, etc.

Twenty nine years ago I became involved with therapy dog work and became an evaluator for Therapy Dogs International. I am currently a certified evaluator with Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dog Organization. I was instrumental in starting the Paws For Reading program at a local library. My dogs make regular visits to Nursing Homes, hospitals, libraries and school systems and work with special needs children. I have also conducted educational programs with the dogs in school systems from Grade School through Master's level programs.

I have been showing in conformation for the past 27 years.  My original breed is Irish Setters.  I started out in junior showmanship and was a top junior for many years and I also represented the US at Crufts in my final year as a junior.  I have shown breeds from all 7 groups and have piloted many dogs to their championships, as well as numerous breed and group wins.

I love dogs and I love training and working with them.  I have recently gotten involved in training and competing in Obedience, Rally and Scent Work and really enjoy all of them. I have also recently gotten involved in tracking.  As I have grown as a trainer, my main focus is making sure I am having fun and my dogs are having fun.

Certifications & Affiliations:

  • Bayshore Member, Irish Setter Club of America Member and Eastern Irish Setter Association Member

Past Dogs (Gone, but Not Forgotten):

  • Ch. Ramblin' Red Fortune Scarlett, CGC- Scarlett- My first dog and my first Champion, we learned so much together. She was a diva and she ruled our house.
  • Am./Can. Ch. Nightn'gael Ramblin' Red Ciara, CGC- Ciara- Ciara was not a fan of the show ring, but she was beautiful and she was a wonderful companion and produced a beautiful litter. My favorite win with Ciara was winning an asbolutely beautiful Veterans class at the 2005 ISCA National.
  • Am./Can. Ch. Ashlyn's Ramblin' Red Rocket- Rhett- Rhett was from our first home bred litter and he was such a fun dog to show and he just loved life.
  • Ch. Ashlyn's Ramblin' Red Comet- Haley- Haley was from our first home bred litter. Haley was the absolute sweetest dog and just wanted to have fun and be loved. Her favorite place was in the kitchen helping to cook.  I showed her in juniors and then she was shown in juniors by two other kids and she was a great partner for them.
  • BISS Ch. Nightn'gael Eternal Treasure- Ryan- Ryan was my most successful dog in the breed ring.  He finished with all majors from the Bred By class. He is a multiple Best in Specialty show winner and multiple group winner and also received an Award of Merit at the 2006 ISCA National and was a Top 10 Irish Setter for several years.  He was such a sweet dog and loved being a lap dog.
  • Ch. Connall Magic Powers- Austin- Austin was my heart dog and he is so sorely missed.  He had a great early career and finished with all majors, but he never grew enough coat to compete at a higher level.  He was such a goofball and his favorite place in the world was the beach.
  • Ch. Connall Magic Morning, JH- Jordan- Jordan is Austin's sister and came to us when she was 6, after her breeder asked us to take her before she passed away.  She was beautiful and super sweet. She won Best Puppy at the 2005 ISCA National and a Best in Specialty show and several breeds and group placements.

Present Dogs:

  • DiQuollo's Super Girl, CDX, BN, RE, SWN, SHDN, TKN- Summer- Summer is my Novice A dog and we have learned so much together.  She is so smart and loves training.  She is a German Shepherd/Cattle Dog mix and she definitely keeps us on our toes, but we love her so much. She recently earned her CDX title and we are training in Utility. We started Scent Work in Spring 2022 and Summer loves it so much and is quickly progressing. We have recently started tracking and she really loves it.
  • DiQuollo's Wonder Woman, BCAT, CGC, TKN- Ali- Ali is a foster fail and we cannot imagine our lives without her.  She can be so silly, and then she is also the sweetest snuggler. Ali has some agility and obedience training, but her favorite dog sport is Fast CAT. .
Barbara Wirkowski

Dog training has been my passion and active hobby for over 25 years and being retired from my corporate job as a system engineer, I can actively pursue it.

I have trained my own dogs in breed, flyball, agility, tracking and obedience, obtaining championship level titles and national rankings in multiple venues. Obedience is my first love.

I am a certified dog trainer and my dog training experience includes; private in-home and in my home (2 week boot camps) pet training, teaching competition obedience classes, working for a kennel training pet dogs for their owners, and titling other people's dogs. I am currently teaching group pet and competition obedience classes at several dog schools in the area.

I truly love dogs and believe training should be positive and motivational. Both the dog and handler should have fun. My training is based on understanding and listening to each dog, so their maximum potential can be achieved.

He has great structure and is my best jumping dog. He is extremely biddable and multitalented. He especially loves agility and tracking. His love of life is ball throwing, possessing me and being petted by anyone.

I am the proud owner of 3 beautiful Smooth Coated Collies, ranging in age from 8 to 2 years old. Two have received their Rally Novice titles, 2 have their Novice Trick Dog Titles and are Therapy Dogs. I started training with Bayshore in 2000 with my first collie that passed in 2013.

I got my start in dog showing when I was in high school and showed the Great Danes my sister owned and bred as well as my own Basenji. I was also involved in Greyhound rescue with Greyhound Friends of NJ.

I am a certified dog trainer with the International Association of Canine Professionals, I am an AKC CGC evaluator, AKC Temperament Test evaluator and AKC Level 1 and 2 Fit Dog Instructor. I am a professional member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers. I often work with timid/fearful (but not reactive) dogs to increase their confidence and sociability.

I love Scentwork and have 2 of my dogs currently in training with BCDC. My “rock star” scentwork girl, Abby, passed in June of 2022 shortly after earning her first scentwork title in Novice containers. I will be trialing with 2 others this year. My 2 year old is also working towards her titles in Rally.
