Renee Shriver
I have has been around dogs all my life. When I was a child my mother helped at a local training club and showed dogs in obedience, so I was always seen ringside. My mother was good friends with a collie breeder so a lot of my memories from my early years are playing with the puppies to socialize them and snuggling with all the collies. It should be no surprise that I fell in love with dog training when I was reintroduced to it as an adult and became addicted to working with my dogs!!!

In 1999 I took my first obedience class and I was hooked. I started teaching in 2003. I love the bond that dog training brought to my life. Angel and I started a journey together to bring smiles to people when she became my first therapy dog, My journey started with Angel but each dog since has helped me to explore new dog sports and to continue my journey. Currently Melody, Annabel and I are active in agility, obedience, rally, musical freestyle, pet therapy, nose work and tricks. Melody has also introduced me to tracking.

After being laid off from an office job I decided become a dog trainer. I have taught classes in agility, rally, competition obedience, focus/attention, pet obedience, therapy dog/CGC, nose work, tricks, tribal and musical freestyle. I teach group and private lessons.

My teaching methods are based on positive training, I love to make training fun for both the human and canine members of the team. After all we do this for fun and we ask the dogs to do a lot for us so let’s make it a happy experience for the whole team.

Alisa Vargas

I've been training in dog sports for over 15 years, competing with success in Dog Agility and Freestyle Flying Disc. I started teaching disc dog in 2013, and agility in 2017. I've learned from top handlers in both sports to develop a fun, positive, yet effective training method that can help set you and your teammate up for success in whatever you chose to do. My current competition dog, Figment, was the 2022 AKC National Agility Championship #1 ranked 16" Regular Dog out of 208 dogs and Finalists at the event. They also finished 8th out of 180 dogs in the Premier Sweepstakes taking home a cash prize and were invited and competed at the 2022 AKC Premier Cup in Ohio. Figgy also placed in the top 10 in every run at NAC, and placed 3rd in JWW at the 2021 Westminster Masters Agility Championship as well as 3rd in Standard at the 2024 Westminster Agility Championship. Figgy and I finished 5th overall in Games at the 2024 1-TDC UKI US Invitational. In May of 2024 they were Overall Champions at the UKI Jersey Devil Classic, earning byes into the coveted Speedstakes Finals and Master Series Finals. Her newest dog, Zippity,  is set to break into the competition ring this fall and looking to have just as great of a career as her mama Fig!

Cherie Fischer started in Agility in 1995, after 30+ years of riding and showing horses. She has trained, shown and titled Papillons, Border Collies, Golden Retrievers, Shelties and an Affenpincher to name a few, and over the years has trained many students with a wide variety of breeds.

She has been teaching agility for over 20 years and, as a result of her lengthy experience, in both large and small breeds, she brings a great deal of insight to handlers of all breeds. Her students have had a great deal of success with a variety of breeds, at both local and National levels.

Jo Lesko
I became involved with Bayshore Companion Dog Club after receiving my first Golden Retriever as a gift. Maggie liked to bark and therefore competition obedience was not a good option for us. We found agility, barking permitted, and the rest is history. I have been competing in agility for 7 years and enjoy passing on the information that I have learned to my students in a fun and exciting atmosphere.

Certifications &  Affiliations:

  • In addition to teaching I have been a member of the Board of Directors and past President of Bayshore from 2006 to 2012.

Jodi Kellar

My love for learning is only second to my love for dogs. I have been in public education since 1998, completing my second master’s degree to gain the certification for school librarianship in 2018. My first master’s degree also prepared me for school leadership with certification as a school principal and school supervisor. In 2003 my heart dog was born, Sweet Jellybean. As my muse, she opened my mind and heart to a world with canine companionship. This was so powerful, I went back to school to become a dog trainer in order to help others experience this wonderful world. My passion grew into an active training center with over a dozen local trainers; I also enjoyed bringing highly skilled national & international training and competition opportunities to the area. I have a 29 year old daughter who is a veterinarian, keeping the love of animals in the family. After moving south to the woodlands of New Jersey, I was able to maintain my training academy in Northern New Jersey for two years, as it was deeply needed in the suburban area. There is now a new facility, which allows me to step away from running a business and return to my true passion, teaching and coaching canine-human teams. I currently enjoy participating in agility, rally, animal acting/modeling, canine tricks and other fun activities with my three dogs, two beagles and a border collie.

TRAINING PHILOSOPHY

My philosophy for teaching people and their dogs is based on the use of the behavioral learning properties of positive motivation. I use these quadrants of learning to build on the relationship and bond between the dog and human. By building on the developed trust, communication and bond within a team I strive to teach skills, attitude, and dedication to canine companionship by encouraging teams to continue to grow together in the sports and activities they both enjoy.

Like many dog owners, I started training my first dog, a mixed breed, just the way many people do - purely to train for canine manners so we could manage living with him. But the more he learned, the more I learned that I was actually enjoying my training time with him. Before long, my training of dogs began a fulfilling hobby that over the next 30 years has evolved into my teaching obedience and tracking.

My first competition dog was a Golden Retriever that successfully earned his AKC CDX and Canadian CD. He was well on his way to trialing for a UD before injury forced his retirement.

My next Golden not only achieved an AKC UD but also earned both a Canadian UD and a UKC UD. When my next two Goldens didn't have the drive and enjoyment of competition Obedience, I began to explore both Agility and Flyball and these developed into competitive venues which both the dogs and I enjoyed. Wanting to try training a different breed, I next trained Australian Shepherds who both went on to earn AKC CDX, UKC CD and Canadian CD's while trialing in Agility and Flyball. My current Golden, at age 2-1/2, has an AKC CD and TD, is trained through Utility and is close to trialing for both a CDX and a TDX.

I am enjoying teaching classes at BCDC. It is my goal as an instructor to have each of my students meet their own personal training goals and to see that both my students and their canine partners enjoy their training time as well as I did when I first began my own journey.

I have been involved with dog training for over 27 years.

I started with Siberian Huskies doing breed competition, sled dog training, obedience competition, agility, tracking and therapy dog work.

I rescued a Golden Retriever 17 years ago and have been hooked on the breed ever since, doing search and rescue, obedience competition, agility competition, tracking titles, conformation, field training, breed competition and therapy dog work.

I have earned several competition titles on 2 breeds in Obedience, 3 Rally Obedience titles, Novice, Open and Excellent agility titles, tracking dog titles and owner handled Conformation Titles on multiple Golden Retrievers.

Two of my dogs are in the Veterinary Hall of Fame for their work at 9/11.

I have been providing training classes for over 18 years for individuals and groups.

I also work with canine problem behaviors including fear issues, neurotic behaviors, separation anxiety, etc.

Twenty nine years ago I became involved with therapy dog work and became an evaluator for Therapy Dogs International. I am currently a certified evaluator with Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dog Organization. I was instrumental in starting the Paws For Reading program at a local library. My dogs make regular visits to Nursing Homes, hospitals, libraries and school systems and work with special needs children. I have also conducted educational programs with the dogs in school systems from Grade School through Master's level programs.

Certifications & Affiliations:

  • Member of Bayshore Companion Dog Club
  • I am Past President, Vice President and Recording Secretary for the Garden State Siberian Husky Club.
  • I am also Past President, Vice president and Board member for the Bayshore Companion Dog Club.
  • In addition, I have been very involved with Siberian Husky and Golden Retriever Rescue for many years.
  • Former Evaluator for Therapy Dogs International
  • Current Evaluator for Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dog Organization.
  • AKC evaluator for CGC program

Dog training has been my passion and active hobby for over 25 years and being retired from my corporate job as a system engineer, I can actively pursue it.

I have trained my own dogs in breed, flyball, agility, tracking and obedience, obtaining championship level titles and national rankings in multiple venues. Obedience is my first love.

I am a certified dog trainer and my dog training experience includes; private in-home and in my home (2 week boot camps) pet training, teaching competition obedience classes, working for a kennel training pet dogs for their owners, and titling other people's dogs. I am currently teaching group pet and competition obedience classes at several dog schools in the area.

I truly love dogs and believe training should be positive and motivational. Both the dog and handler should have fun. My training is based on understanding and listening to each dog, so their maximum potential can be achieved.

Certifications & Affiliations:

  • Member of Bayshore Companion Dog Club since 1985.

K9 Partners:  My dogs (past and present)

  • Cinnamon (Sheltie mix, college dog and best friend for 15.5 years) A once in a lifetime dog! Got her my first year of college and she came with me to my classes and out on horseback when I took out trail rides. She was totally attached to me, a one person dog, my best friend. She loved to chase sticks, play with dogs and run in the park.

  • Ch Lorjen Sambuca Girl UD (Belgian Sheepdog- 1983-1997 Lived to 14) Sambuca got me totally hooked on the obedience sport and also on the Belgian breeds. She was a challenge to train. Her love of life was playing with dogs.

  • Ch OTCH FBCH U-CDX Can UD Winjammers Hot Diggity Dawg UDX, RN, MX, MXJ, NADAC: NAC, OAC-V (Belgian Tervuren- 1991-2006- Lived to 15) Diggs was an awesome obedience dog and introduced me to the sports of agility and flyball. He has championships in breed, flyball and AKC and CKC Obedience. Digg's obedience career highlights include 787 lifetime OTCH points, 2 perfect 200 scores (Open B and Utility B), over 50 HITs/HCs, placements in Novice, Open, and Super Dog at Gains events, including 1st place in Open at Classic, 1st place in herding group at AKC Invitational (highest seeded dog after first day), and number 1 Tervuren in obedience many years running. He was a high drive and confident dog who was ready for anything. He loved flyball and his love of life was to run.

  • MACH OTCH Winjammers Never a Dull Moment MX, MXJ, RE, NADAC: EAC, EJC OGC (rescued ILP Border Collie- 1996-2010- Lived to 14) Neon taught me so much about clicker training. She is my first dog to earn both obedience and agility championships (OTCH MACH dog). Neon has earned many obedience HITs/HCs, and she came out of retirement to earn her AKC rally titles RN, RA, RE (all first place legs except for one). Neon came with a lot of baggage, but we overcame it! Her love of life was to chase critters.

  • CH OTCH MACH USDAA: ADCH U-OCH Incyta Way Ahead VCD3, TDX, XF, RE, UDX, OM2, HSAs (Belgian Tervuren- 2004-2019- Lived to 15) Topper helped me realize my long time goal of earning a CH/OTCH/MACH (3 AKC champhionships)! He also earned a UKC obedience championship and a USDAA agility championship. He introduced me to the sport of tracking and we both love it. He earned the TD and TDX tracking titles before we had to stop due to periodontal disease. Topper is also my first dog to earn a herding title. He had medium drive and was a bit reserved. His love of life was taking long walks.

  • OTCH (5), U-CDX Sprite-Fanfare’s Kissed by Grace, TD, VCD2, RM, UDX3, OM6, MX, MXJ, MXF (Belgian Tervuren- 2009- Present) Gracie earned her AKC obedience titles, OTCH and UDX by 3 years of age, earning 2 200 scores from Open B. We had to cut her agility career short due to her developing jumping issues. Gracie is from working lines. She has high drive and is confident. She is a speed demon in agility and is totally up for anything. Her love of life is ball playing and tugging.

  • OTCH RACH Stahlrosenhofs Joint Ad Venture of Turick BN UDX OM2 HSAds HIAds OA OAJ VCD2 TD (Belgian Malinois- 2015- Present) Journey is pointed in breed. He easily earned his OTCH with 2 200's from Beginner Novice and 1 from Open B. He is my first dog to earn a Rally Championship. He did it in 20 straight 2 trial shows. We stopped showing in Obedience when he got his OTCH and have moved onto agility. He earned herding started and intermediate titles in both sheep and ducks. Journey earned a TD in tracking and is currently training for the TDX. He has turned out to be an awesome tracking dog! My goals with Journey are to earn a MACH and go as far as we can in tracking, and then maybe do nose work. Journey is a very handsome and fun loving dog. He has great structure and is my best jumping dog. He is extremely biddable and multitalented. He especially loves agility and tracking. His love of life is ball throwing, possessing me and being petted by anyone.
