PRE-COMPETITION- COMPETITION PUPPY

This class is for handlers with prior competition experience or for pet owners looking to expand on their dog's skills.  Puppies will be introduced to exercises from all levels of obedience training, including the foundations of attention work, retrieving, heeling, recalls with front and finish, marking, position changes (sit/stand/down), jumping over low high/bar/broad jumps and go outs.  Fun games will also be taught (spins, hand touches, etc.).

Dogs should be over 3 months of age.  No prior training is required.  Dogs may be coming from the Puppy (pet) class.  

PRE-COMPETITION- FOUNDATION SKILLS FOR SPORTS

This class will teach skills needed for dog sports, such as focus work, toy motivation, switching between toys and treats, shaping skills and proofing of stays and recalls.  Exercises will be taught with motivational games.  

Dogs should have graduated from Beginner 1 or have equivalent skills.   

PRE-COMPETITION- FUN AND GAMES FOR SPORTS

This class will teach skills through motivational games.  Skills will include going away from the handler (go outs), item retrieval (bumper, dumbbell or toy can be used) and finding the handler's scent.  

Dogs should have graduated from Beginner 1 or have equivalent skills.   

ATTENTION I

This is a competition obedience class. This class teaches obedience foundation skills for performance sports (obedience and/or agility).  It is the first in a 2 part series.  This class covers the latest techniques in training and includes bowl work, attention, send to places, waits, heeling, tug/release etc.  Pet behaviors needed for general obedience are briefly covered (come, loose leash walking, and leave it).  Class will be fun and motivational with many games and attention work to build a solid relationship with your dog.  Dogs graduating from this class can go onto the Attention II or Pre-Novice obedience classes, or if pursuing agility, a foundation agility class.

Dogs should be over 5 months of age. No prior training is required. Dogs may be coming from the Puppy class.

ATTENTION II

This is a competition obedience class. This class is a continuation from the Attention I class. Skills covered will include attention, heeling, stand for exam, recall, and sit and down stays. Class will be fun and motivational with many games introduced. 

Dogs should have completed the Attention I class or have equivalent skills.

ATTENTION III

This is a competition obedience class. This class is a continuation from the Attention II class. This class will finish teaching the skills needed for the AKC novice exercises including heeling (on and off leash),  stand for exam, recall, and sit and down stays. Major focus is on teaching all of the components of heeling (e.g., turns, pace changes, halts). Footwork (without your dog) will be taught to the handler and then put together with the dog. 

Dogs should have completed the Attention II class or have equivalent skills.

PRE-NOVICE 1

This is a competition obedience class. This class will teach the skills needed for the AKC Novice exercises, including: heeling, stand for exam, recall, sit-stay get your leash, and sit and down stays.  Handling for heeling will be taught.  Class will be fun and motivational and include attention work to build a solid relationship with your dog.  

Dogs should have completed the Beginner 2 or Attention II class or have equivalent skills.

TEACHING NOVICE 

This is a competition obedience class. This class is for dogs that have been introduced to beginner novice and novice obedience exercises, but need more work perfecting them.  This is a teaching class that will help solidify your heeling, sit/stand for exam, recall, fronts, finishes and stays.  This class is for dogs that are not quite ready for the Show Ready Novice class with its distraction training and perfecting of the exercises.  AKC Rules and Regulations will be reviewed for the Beginner Novice and Novice obedience classes.  Please see Chapter 3 of the AKC rule book for a description of the Novice class.  http://images.akc.org/pdf/rulebooks/RO2999.pdf.

Dogs should have completed the Attention III class or have equivalent skills.  

SHOW READY NOVICE

This is a competition obedience class.  This class is beneficial to those getting ready to show in Novice, as well as those currently showing.  Class will be geared to keep your dog fully peaked and motivated for on-going showing, as well as identifying and working any training gaps you and your dog have.  This class will help perfect the Novice exercises, as well as focus on polishing and proofing.  Run-thrus will be conducted.  

Dogs should know all of the Beginner Novice and Novice exercises and be getting ready to compete.  

NOVICE FOR ALL LEVELS

This is a competition obedience class. This class is beneficial to those just learning the Beginner Novice/Novice level exercises, getting ready to show, as well as those currently showing.  This class will help the less advanced dog to solidify their Novice skills (heeling, sit/stand for exam, recall, fronts, finishes, sit stay get your leash and stays), as well as prepare the more advanced students to compete in AKC Novice obedience trials.  Rules will be discussed, as well as strategy for competing.  The Novice exercises will be perfected and proofed.  Training gaps you and your dog have will be identified and worked. Run-thrus will be conducted.

Dogs should have completed the Attention III class or have equivalent skills.

TEACHING OPEN

This is a competition obedience class. This is a teaching class that will teach the skills for the AKC Open exercises.  These skills include: retrieving a dumbbell on the flat and over a jump (dumbbell skills of take, hold and carry), broad jump, command discrimination, drop on recall and stand stay get your leash.  Heeling is minimally covered in this class.  AKC Rules and Regulations will be reviewed for the Open obedience class  Please see Chapter 4 of the AKC rule book for a description of the Open Class: http://images.akc.org/pdf/rulebooks/RO2999.pdf.

Dogs should know all of the AKC Novice Exercises or have a CD obedience title.  Handlers will need an appropriately sized dumbbell.  

SHOW READY OPEN

This is a competition obedience class. This class is beneficial to those getting ready to show in Open, as well as those currently showing.  Class will be geared to keep your dog fully peaked and motivated for on-going showing, as well as identifying and working any training gaps you and your dog have.  This class will help perfect the Open exercises as well as focus on polishing and proofing.  Run-thrus will be conducted.

Dogs should know all of the AKC Open exercises and be getting ready to compete.  

OPEN FOR ALL LEVELS

This is a competition obedience class. This class is beneficial to those just learning the Open level exercises, getting ready to show in Open, as well as those currently showing.  This class will teach the less advanced dog their open level skills (retrieving, broad jump, command discrimination, drop on recall and stand stay get your leash), as well as prepare the more advanced students to compete in AKC Open obedience trials.  Rules will be discussed, as well as strategy for competing.  The Open exercises will be perfected and proofed.  Training gaps you and your dog have will be identified and worked.  Run-thrus will be conducted.  

Dogs should know all of the AKC Novice exercises or have a CD Obedience Title. 


TEACHING UTILITY

This is a competition obedience class. This is a teaching class that will teach the skills for the AKC Utility exercises.  These skills include: signals, scent articles, gloves, moving stand and directed jumping.  AKC Rules and Regulations will be reviewed for the Utility obedience class.  Please see Chapter 5 of the AKC rule book for a description of the Utility Class. http://images.akc.org/pdf/rulebooks/RO2999.pdf.

Dogs should know all of the AKC Open exercises or have a CDX Obedience title.  


SHOW READY UTILITY

This is a competition obedience class. This class is beneficial to those getting ready to show in Utility, as well as those currently showing.  Class will be geared to keep your dog fully peaked and motivated for on-going showing, as well as identifying and working any training gaps you and your dog have.  This class will help perfect the Utility exercises, as well as focus on polishing and proofing.  Run-thrus will be conducted.

Dogs should know all of the AKC Open exercises or have a CDX Obedience title.  


UTILITY FOR ALL LEVELS

This is a competition obedience class. This class is beneficial to those just learning the Utility level exercises, getting ready to show in Utility, as well as those currently showing.  This class will teach the less advanced dog their utility level skills (signals, scent articles, gloves, moving stand and directed jumping), as well as prepare the more advanced students to compete in AKC Utility obedience trials.  Rules will be discussed as well as strategy for competing.  The Utility exercises will be perfected and proofed.  Training gaps you and your dog have will be identified and worked.  Run-thrus will be conducted.  

Dogs should know all of the AKC Open exercises.
